Magna Rossa classes above at Sale
Dec 11, 2015
Returning to the Sale racecourse brought the ultimate dividend for the promising filly Magna Rossa.
Magna Rossa made her debut at Sale in June where she was narrowly beaten by Sky Dazzle in a maiden that also included the recent impressive Moonee Valley winner Rillito.
The daughter of Magnus then finished second again at her next start in town, beating home the subsequent Flemington winner and Group 3 placegetter Jalan Jalan.
Those formlines ensured Magna Rossa was well placed when she returned to racing in the Inglis Sale Dec. 11 3YO Fillies Maiden Plate (1012m).
Trainers Mathew Ellerton and Simon Zahra left the riding of the filly in apprentice Katelyn Mallyon’s hands and she had little trouble getting Magna Rossa home for her maiden win.
A wide draw meant Mallyon took Magna Rossa beck in search of cover in the windy conditions before the smart galloper improved easily around her opposition rounding the home turn.
Magna Rossa had to contend with a strong headwind in the straight but she proved far too strong for her rivals as she strode to a soft two-length win.
“She was always going to be too good there, she’s a very nice filly,” Zahra said.
“Katelyn was patient on her and brought her out at the right time and Magna Rossa was able to do the rest.
“It was a pleasing effort from all concerned. Hopefully, she will learn from that and be able to work through her classes.”
Magna Rossa’s convincing success earned connections $17,300 in prizemoney and bonuses, taking her stakes tally to more than $42,000.
Congratulations to Magna Rossa’s owners and all concerned with her brilliant maiden win.
