Moparee joins Ellerton Zahra's winning roll at Wangaratta
Dec 08, 2015
Wangaratta became the latest venue to feature in Ellerton Zahra Racing’s wonderful summer roll when Moparee swamped her opposition to win the Insite Real Estate BM70 Handicap (1170m).
Recent Kilmore, Sandown and Terang meetings have featured doubles for Ellerton Zahra Racing in the last fortnight as the Flemington-based team continues to rack up the post-carnival wins.
Moparee joined the list of fresh winners for Ellerton Zahra Racing when she came from well back to beat a handy field in her $20,000 assignment.
Moparee jumped well but a wide gate forced jockey Damian Lane to take her back to race with two behind her to the home turn but the daughter of Magnus improved quickly when the rider eased her wider on the home turn.
Moparee sprinted impressively down the centre of the track to swamp the leaders with 100m to run before going to record her third win from 19 starts while breaking a winning drought that stretched back to May 2013.
“Full credit goes to Matty and Simon, also the team at Flemington, they do a tremendous job,” Lane said.
“You know whenever you jump aboard that the horse is going to be in top order.
“She normally races handy to the speed and she’s usually lightning out of the barriers, which is the opposite of what she did today but she finished off powerfully.
“I’m sure there’s more wins in store.”
The $11,000 winner’s cheque took Moparee’s earnings to more than $155,000.
Congratulations to Moparee’s owners and all involved with her dominant Wangaratta win.
