Baby Whistles to first-up win at Moonee Valley

Nov 28, 2015

Ellerton Zahra Racing’s post-carnival roll shows no signs of slowing after Whistle Baby’s first-up win at Moonee Valley.

Trainers Mathew Ellerton and Simon Zahra, along with a dedicated team of staff, have produced six winners since Rough Justice won at Moonee Valley eight days earlier.

Whistle Baby resumed from a spell Your Car Handicap (1200m) with the returning Chris Symons aboard and everything went perfectly for the pair in the $80,000 race.

Symons gave Whistle Baby a comfortable run midfield on the rail to the home turn before the five-year-old sprinted strongly along the inside section of the track to gain a narrow verdict.

Zahra said Whistle Baby had returned from a break in great order and had benefitted from Symons’s experience in the straight.

“She’s been going really well,” Zahra said.

“You should see her around the stable, she’s really switched on. She’s just a different horse this time in. She was quite forward in condition this time.

“It was a terrific ride by Chris, he rode her for luck and got it.”

Zahra said the stable expected the winning run to continue in the coming weeks after he and Ellerton decided to target the summer period with their stock.

“It’s generally our time of year,” Zahra said. “We haven’t got the top notch horses but it’s good to be busy at this time of the year and racking up wins going into sales season.”

Congratulations to Whistle Baby’s owners and all involved with the talented mare’s latest win, which was her sixth in 24 starts.
