Age Of Chivalry stands up again at Caulfield
Aug 31, 2019
Age Of Chivalry had his troubles in the lead-up to the race but the impressive four-year-old again proved too strong for his rivals in a bold front-running performance at Caulfield.
Age Of Chivalry led throughout to win a Benchmark 84 race at Caulfield on August 17 but found trouble after jockey Damian Lane was interviewed after that event.
“He hasn’t had plain sailing in the last fortnight courtesy of the pony here last time,” Mathew Ellerton, who trains Age Of Chivalry in partnership with Simon Zahra, said.
“The bloody thing kicked him on the way back and he did miss a bit of work.”
Ellerton and Zahra prepared Age Of Chivalry for the Ladbrokes Odds Boost Handicap (1400m) and jockey Damian Lane did the rest aboard the gelding.
Lane perfectly rated Age Of Chivalry in front before the son of He’s Remarkable outsprinted his opposition in the straight.
Age Of Chivalry’s win was against the pattern of the day after headwinds made life difficult for front-runners at Caulfield.
“He probably did it on a day that leaders found it difficult with the wind,” Ellerton said.
“It picked back up again and we were mindful of that before the race.
“But his style is his style and Damian rode him well.”
The win should also boost Age Of Chivalry’s handicap rating, which should create opportunities to run in harder races in the spring.
“Hopefully he can have plain sailing into a better race sometime soon,” Ellerton said.
“He’s won two races back now and he needed to do that to get his rating up.
“I’m sure he’s got a better win in store for him and hopefully we can keep him in one piece.”
Age Of Chivalry’s latest win was his fourth in only nine starts but took his stakes tally to more than $250,000.
Congratulations to Age Of Chivalry’s owners and all involved with the smart performer’s latest success.
