Crystal Dreamer simply amazing in The Heath

Aug 31, 2019

Crystal Dreamer has even amazed trainers Mathew Ellerton and Simon Zahra with his triumphant return to racing in The Heath at Caulfield.

A suspensory injury kept Crystal Dreamer off the scene for almost a year but took on an outstanding field, including Group 1 winners Vega Magic and Malaguerra in the Group 3 event.

The weight scale of The Heath were against Crystal Dreamer but the sprinter’s determination outweighed any disadvantage in his first-up win.

Crystal Dreamer started at big odds but Damian Lane’s superb handling of the gelding helped him prevail in a thrilling finish to the $160,000 race.

"He's coming back off an injury and you're just hoping they can get through in one piece. We probably didn't think today was his day but he had certainly prepped up well for the run," Ellerton said.

"The horse was super and he trialled really well last week.

"But we just thought the set weights plus penalties conditions of the race was probably not his go and he would be improved from today going back to a handicap.

"He's a happy, healthy horse and that's what he's capable of.”

Crystal Dreamer’s brilliant win was his 11th of his 28-start career while the $96,750 winner’s cheque took his stakes tally to more than $590,000.

Congratulations to owners Contract Racing and all involved with Crystal Dreamer’s memorable win at Caulfield.
