Age Of Chivalry cruises to Caulfield success

Aug 17, 2019

A superb front-running ride from jockey Damian Lane guided Age Of Chivalry back to the winner’s circle at Caulfield.

Age Of Chivalry didn’t have the best of luck when resuming at The Valley on August 3 but good fortune played little part in the four-year-old’s win in the Blue Star Print Handicap (1400m).

The son of He’s Remarkable races best when he has plenty of galloping room and Lane ensured Age Of Chivalry had that when he allowed him to roll to the front early in the $125,000 race.

Lane gave his rivals no chance of beating Age Of Chivalry, perfectly rating the gelding, who cruised to a comfortable 1 ¼ length win, his third in eight starts.

Co-trainer Mathew Ellerton said Age Of Chivalry was keen to get on with things while he was being saddled but the smart galloper was all business when he arrived in the Caulfield mounting yard.

“We were a bit worried earlier when he got a bit fresh out the back when we were saddling him,” Ellerton, who trains Age Of Chivalry in partnership with Simon Zahra, said.

“He got his raceday head on around the front in the mounting yard and Damian took luck out of the equation.”

Ellerton said Age Of Chivalry has matured well in time for his four-year-old season but the promising galloper would need to keep racking up the wins to tackle harder races during the spring.

“He has come back a fuller horse but he needs to grow up in the brain a little bit,” Ellerton said.

“He can be a task to handle but we’ve just got to chip away with him.

“Making any solid plans for him at this time of the year is hard to do because he’s down in the ratings.

“Hopefully he gets enough rating points to run in an open handicap at Caulfield in a fortnight.”

Age Of Chivalry earned a $68,000 winner’s cheque for his latest win, taking his stakes tally to more than $185,000.

Congratulations to Age Of Chivalry’s owners and all involved with his latest success.
