High Beam shines again at Sale

Aug 15, 2019

High Beam left it late but the consistent galloper notched her second win in three starts with a fighting success at Sale.

The four-year-old mare has raced in terrific form throughout her winter campaign with two wins and three minor placings in a long campaign that started back in March.

High Beam broke her maiden at Bendigo three runs back before producing an excellent effort to run a close fourth in the $150,000 VOBIS Gold Reef at Caulfield on July 27.

Trainers Mathew Ellerton and Simon Zahra found the ideal assignment for High Beam in the Ladbrokes Cash In Handicap (1423m) at Benchmark 58 level.

The daughter of So You Think had the services of top jockey Damian Lane but was dropping back in distance for her Sale assignment.

High Beam needed the entire length of the straight to overhaul the leaders but did a great job to score her second win in her 13-start career.

“She was dropping back in distance and she had plenty of weight but she showed a real will to win,” Zahra said.

“The race wasn’t run to suit but the most impressive part was the way she kept at her job and got the result in the end.

“She’s very honest and she has really turned the corner since she broke her maiden win at Bendigo. She enjoys that winning feeling and she has really started finishing her races off well.”

High Beam earned a $19,250 winner’s cheque for her Sale win, taking her overall stakes tally to more than $90,000.

Congratulations to Hesket Bloodstock on yet another win in partnership with Ellerton Zahra Racing.
