Hautclere home easily at Seymour
May 09, 2019
Hautclere’s maiden win was certainly worth the wait after his dominant performance at Seymour.
Hautclere had shown plenty of ability, running second in six of his first 12 starts and wasn’t far away in some of his unplaced runs.
But those luckless outings were all put aside after the gelded son of Exceed And Excel showed his full talent with the easiest of wins in the Goulburn Murray Credit Union 3YO Maiden Plate (1100m).
Hautclere drew wide but jockey Damien Thornton allowed him to work across to lead at his leisure early. The three-year-old relaxed well under Thornton, which left plenty in reserve for his dash to the line.
Hautclere quickened impressively and maintained his effort in the straight to score comfortably despite Thornton giving him an easy time in the last 150m.
“He’s been frustrating for a lot of people but it’s good to see him finally stick his head out and get the result,” Thornton said.
“He actually relaxed pretty well today. He just floated across to the get there and then he had a good time of it in front.
“Relaxing well probably helped him today.
“I resisted using the whip on him today because I’ve probably been a bit hard on him the last couple of times that I’ve ridden him, so I thought I’d do the opposite and be nice and it seemed to work.”
Hautclere earned connections a $21,000 winner’s cheque for his brilliant effort, taking his stakes tally to more than $63,000.
Congratulations to great stable supporters Hesket Bloodstock on another win in partnership with Ellerton Zahra Racing.
