Propelle produces another win for Smart Missile at Caulfield

Trainers Mathew Ellerton and Simon Zahra hit the target yet again with another of Smart Missile’s progeny when Propelle easily handled her opposition at Caulfield.

Smart Coupe, Club Tropicana, Josephine Sea and Lianne are also Ellerton Zahra Racing success stories with Smart Missile progeny while Propelle has also done an outstanding job for her owners in her short career to date.

Propelle had turned in solid efforts for minor placings at her two previous autumn runs but went to another level in the Keno Classic Handicap (1000m) at Caulfield.

Propelle was a class above her rivals in the $75,000 race.

The mare made a moderate start to the contest and settled in the second half of the field but swept down the middle of the track in the straight to score by the best part of three lengths.

“She was pretty impressive,” Ellerton said.

“The good (4) track was probably perfect for her. She dips her toe into the track a bit and let down really well.

“There looked to be good speed inside her so I thought she’d get back a bit. I just said to Craig (Williams) to ride her a bit quiet and ride her to hit the line and hopefully things work out for her. And they did.”

Ellerton said he expected Propelle to continue to improve as her preparation moves into the winter months.

“She is probably just hitting her straps right now,” Ellerton said.

“The owners have been really patient and hopefully they reap a few rewards with her now.”

Ellerton Zahra Racing has ownership opportunities still available in two yearlings by Smart Missile that are shaping up extremely well for the stable.
