Limeshow turns it on first-up for Ellerton Zahra Racing at Sandown
Mar 27, 2019
Limeshow made an outstanding start to life with the Ellerton Zahra Racing team with a super win at Sandown.
The filly joined Ellerton Zahra Racing after the demise of the Darren Weir stable but the filly showed the stable change had been a blessing with her first-up win in the Big Screen Company Handicap (1300m).
Limeshow had won her maiden over 1600m in the spring but did a terrific job to score over the shorter 1300m trip at Sandown.
Limeshow settled in the second half of the field for jockey Damian Lane before winding up to top gear at the 200m of the $50,000 race. The Al Maher filly charged home late to score what turned out to be a comfortable win.
“She’d shown in the trials that she had improved and that she had definitely strengthened up,” Lane said.
“But she probably needed to do that after her last season.
“The way the race panned out probably helped her today because she was always going to be back and finding the line.
“It was just a whether things were going to find a place and they did.”
Co-trainer Simon Zahra said he and training partner Mathew Ellerton are still learning about Limeshow but she had performed well in her jumpouts leading into her first-up run.
“She came in off the pre-training and has fitted in nicely and she’s going really well,” Zahra said.
“We’ve inherited a few nice horses off David (Moodie) and we’ve had a couple of winners so it has been good.
“We have got to raise that bar (with Limeshow) after that win. It was a huge effort.”
Congratulations to great stable supporters Contract Racing and all involved with getting Limeshow to Sandown in such terrific order.
