First Tier notches first win at Seymour
Mar 05, 2019
The track conditions weren’t in her favour but First Tier overcame a slow start to score a breakthrough win at Seymour.
The Redoute’s Choice filly had finished third at her first two runs this in and the form continued to stack up around her two solid placings at The Valley and Seymour.
First Tier returned to Seymour where a shifty track greeted the three-year-old in the United Insurance Group 3YO Fillies Maiden Plate (1300m).
Chris Symons rode First Tier in the $35,000 race but had to do a bit of work early to get his mount into a good position after she began slowly from barrier six.
First Tier recovered to travel well midrace but was held up with plenty more to give on the home turn. However, Symons guided First Tier between runners to hit the front at the 100m and keep going to score by a long head.
Symons said firmer footing could have increased First Tier’s winning margin.
“She has been knocking on the door,” Symons said.
“She just jumped a little bit tardy away and I was hoping to be up there controlling the speed but that wasn’t the case.
“She was comfortable taking the sit and we had a beautiful run through.
“She had to work for it late but I don’t think the ground helped. It was a little bit shifty out there.
“But she has got that run on the board now.”
Symons said more ground would suit First Tier with the step to 1600m likely to help the filly in the near future.
First Tier’s maiden success earned connections a $19,250 winner’s cheque, taking her stakes tally to more than $28,000 with the promise of a lot more to come as she matures.
Congratulations to the team at Pinecliff Racing on their latest success in partnership with Ellerton Zahra Racing.
