Another Zacinto winner for EZR at Seymour
Dec 30, 2018
It was no surprise to see Ellerton Zahra Racing produce another impressive winner by New Zealand sire Zacinto at Seymour.
Flemington trainers Mathew Ellerton and Simon Zahra have had great success with Zacinto’s progeny with top galloper Odeon, handy performer Into Rio and now Necessitas breaking through for her maiden win at Seymour.
Necessitas showed plenty of promise in his previous five starts, which included a placing at Flemington as a two-year-old and a good first-up third in a strong form race at Seymour in November.
Necessitas had her second run at 1600m this preparation in the Avenel Equine Hospital Maiden Plate (1600m) and comfortably handled her opposition in the $26,000 race.
Jockey Damien Thornton gave Necessitas a cosy run until pushing her to improve on the home turn. The filly hit the front at the 200m before racing away to score easily.
“Today she loomed up but she did a bit wrong when Damien let her go,” Zahra said.
“There’s a lot of improvement once we step her up over further and once she gets out over a bit more ground, I think she’ll be a really nice filly.”
Zahra said the decision to give Necessitas a break rather than pursue the VRC Oaks in the spring would pay off in the coming months.
“She really thickened up in her break and she’s a bit of a hot filly so we’ll juts take our time with her,” Zahra said.
“She’s got a fair bit of upside and if we take our time with her, she could win a nice race for us.”
Necessitas earned a $14,300 winner’s cheque for her dominant success, taking her stakes tally to more than $29,000 from only six starts.
Congratulations to the big band of happy owners on their success with Necessitas.
