Freeze Over dominant again at Moonee Valley

Dec 14, 2018

Freeze Over continued her terrific Moonee Valley form with another win on the unique circuit in a heat of the 55-Second Challenge over 955m.

Freeze Over won well at her first outing at The Valley in February before running a good third at the track in November ahead of her latest success.

The Exceed And Excel mare had not raced on soft ground before her latest assignment but the four-year-old handled the ground easily in her comfortable win.

Jockey Andrew Mallyon sent the four-year-old forward to race on the speed before showing her smart turn of foot from the home turn to score by a length.

Mallyon said the Mathew Ellerton and Simon Zahra-trained Freeze Over controlled the $55,000 race from the outset.

“She’s one of those fillies that when she does put it all together, she can control a race at a good tempo and give a good kick,” Mallyon said.

“She relaxed lovely and Matty took the earmuffs off and I reckon that was a good move because she just seemed to give me a better kick tonight and she was really strong on the line.

“It makes a big difference in those 955(m) races when they can just go forward, lay on their neck and you can cruise along in front.

“She has got that high cruising speed and she gave me a good kick.”

Freeze Over’s smart win was her third in 14 starts while the $30,000 first prizemoney took her stakes tally through the $150,000 barrier.

Congratulations to great stable supporters Hesket Bloodstock on yet another win in partnership with Ellerton Zahra Racing.
