Booker on the back-up one of five EZR runners on Caulfield Cup day
Oct 18, 2018
Trainers Mathew Ellerton and Simon Zahra will put classy mare Booker on the quick back-up in Saturday’s Group 2 Tristarc Stakes (1400m) at Caulfield.
Booker improved significantly on her second-up run when narrowly beaten in the Group 3 Northwood Plume Stakes (1200m) last Saturday and the dual Group 2 winner has pleased her trainers with her recovery from that race.
Zahra said Booker has actually improved from her second-up outing and would give a good account of herself despite drawing barrier 13 on Saturday.
“She has come through that run really well, so it was a pretty easy decision,” Zahra said.
“She needed that run last week and it has brought her on a fair bit.
“She’s going well so we’ll go again and see how she measures up.”
Aristia is a maiden but looks a great chance in the Group 3 Ethereal Stakes over 2000m after her unlucky effort in the Group 2 Edward Manifold Stakes (1600m) at Flemington last time.
Aristia should have finished closer than five lengths from Amphitrite, who franked the form by winning the Group 1 Thousand Guineas last Saturday.
“The form line out of the race is really good and she should have finished closer,” Zahra said.
“The form out of her previous run also tied in well in the Stutt Stakes so she has been around the mark and we’re happy with her.
“We think she’s going to be suited by the 2000m and she won’t have to do much work from the barrier.”
Promising three-year-old Zoutori will continue on a Sandown Guineas path when he steps out in the Listed Gothic Stakes (1400m).
Zoutori was competitive with some smart types as a two-year-old and opened his three-year-old season with a dominant maiden win at Kyneton on October 5.
“We’ll go to that race on Saturday then the Carbine Club Stakes with an eye on the Sandown Guineas because we think he’s going really well,” Zahra said.
“His two-year-old form was excellent and the form out of his Flemington placing developed into a good pointer for the Caulfield Guineas because Vassilator ran second and Mirette also ran well in the Caulfield Guineas.
“His first-up win was excellent because he was always wide and kept out of trouble, so he covered plenty of extra ground.
“His work has been really good since so we’re expecting him to run well again.”
Ellerton Zahra Racing will run talented mares Creativity and Essence Of Terror in the Listed Alinghi Stakes (1100m).
Creativity has drawn barrier 12 in the 13-horse field that will contest the $120,000 race while Essence Of Terror earned a crack at a black type race with her impressive first-up win at The Valley.
“Creativity didn’t have much luck because she didn’t get much room last start but her work since has been really good and we’re expecting another good effort from her,” Zahra said.
“Essence Of Terror is flying this prep. She was really good first-up, but the race isn’t as strong as in other years so they both have to be really good chances.”
Damien Thornton will be aboard Creativity while Dwayne Dunn rides Essence Of Terror.
Damian Lane will pilot Zoutori, Aristia and Booker.
Good luck to the owners of all the stable’s Caulfield Cup day runners and a huge thanks to our wonderful staff for their work to get the horses to such a big race day in terrific condition.
