Essence proves a Terror for her rivals at The Valley
Sep 28, 2018
It’s always a terrific result when a long-range plan comes off and trainers Mathew Ellerton and Simon Zahra enjoyed such a success when Essence Of Terror scored first-up at The Valley.
Ellerton and Zahra aimed Essence Of Terror at the opening heat of the 55-Second Challenge (955m) on Grand Final Eve and the talented mare justified her trainers’ faith with a determined win.
Essence Of Terror wasn’t far away in a similar race when resuming last time in but the six-year-old went one better in her latest $120,000 assignment.
“She’s been a good mare and we always give her the winter off and this has been a race that we have targeted for the last couple of years,” Zahra said.
“We race her nine months of the year and she’s always great value because she gets out there and always has a crack.”
Dwayne Dunn rode Essence Of Terror at The Valley, giving her plenty of time to balance but the sprinter was briefly held up by the tiring leader nearing the home turn.
However, a gap appeared at the 200m before Essence of Terror showed a smart turn of foot to score by three-quarters of a length.
“The horses have been going well without luck and I didn’t think we were going to get it again tonight but it was a terrific patient ride by Dwayne,” Zahra said.
“We’ve had him on a couple of times and he has been riding well.”
Zahra said Essence Of Terror’s win was a deserved result for her loyal owners, which include the Cooper family.
“They have done a terrific job down at the farm and it’s all set up now for Ben Cooper, one of our biggest backers, and it’s good to get the win for him,” Zahra said.
“It has been a while in between drinks for him.”
Essence Of Terror’s latest victory was the fifth of her 28-start career while the $80,000 winner’s cheque took her stakes tally to more than $250,000.
Congratulations to Essence Of Terror’s owners and all involved with her brilliant win at The Valley.
