Sheezdashing after a Stock Stakes win at The Valley

Sep 27, 2018

After a terrific first-up effort, Sheezdashing’s trainers Mathew Ellerton and Simon Zahra expect another big run from the talented mare in Friday night’s Group II Stocks Stakes (1600m) at Moonee Valley.

Shezdashing was placed in both the Group I Australasian Oaks and Group I Queensland Oaks in the spring but finds herself in a seven-horse field around the unique Moonee Valley circuit in the Stocks Stakes.

Sheezdashing is likely to give a start in the Stocks Stakes while Group I-winning mare I Am A Star is likely to roll forward and enjoy an advantage early in the race.

Sheezdashing closed well from the back when third to I Am A Star when she resumed in the Group II Let’s Elope Stakes (1400m) at Flemington. Co-trainer Simon Zahra said Sheezdashing was short of peak fitness on that day.

“It was a super effort first-up considering she had a ton of improvement still left in her,” Zahra, who trains Sheezdashing in partnership with Mathew Ellerton, said.

Sheezdashing has missed a place at both previous runs at The Valley but Zahra said the daughter of Myboycharlie did well enough in those outings to convince the stable she had no trouble with the circuit.

“She gets back in her races but her record at The Valley is really good,” Zahra said.

“She has been there twice and run well twice but she’s going better than ever now.

“The mile will be perfect for her but she just needs a little bit of speed on and she’ll be hard to beat again.”

Damien Thornton will again ride Sheezdashing in the Stocks Stakes.

Essence Of Terror will be Ellerton and Zahra’s other runner at The Valley on Friday night when she resumes in the opening heat of the 55-Second Challenge (955m) for season 2018/19.

Essence Of Terror ran second when resuming over the 955m course at The Valley last time in and was beaten a half-length over the same trip last December.

“All of her runs at The Valley have been excellent so we thought we’d go there to start her off,” Zahra said.

“She’s done well since coming back into the stable so we expect her to be around the mark first-up.”

Dwayne Dunn will be aboard Essence Of Terror at The Valley.
