Sale winner a smart galloper for sure

Sep 20, 2018

Smart four-year-old Forsure excelled at his return to racing with a dominant win at Sale.

Forsure raced in great heart for most of his autumn campaign where he posted a maiden victory and ran second in Saturday city grade at Flemington before he was tested in stakes class.

The son of Magnus struggled in town late in his autumn preparation but Forsure gave the stable a reminder of his ability with his win in the Newry Fencing Contractors Handicap (1200m).

Forsure dropped back to Benchmark 64 company for his first-up outing and top jockey Damian Lane gave the horse the perfect run behind the speed until it was time to quicken nearing the home turn.

Lane switched Forsure out to chase the leaders at the 300m and he quickly gathered momentum to challenge the front-runners at the 200m.

Forsure laid in under pressure when hitting the front at the 100m but he still extended well late to score a determined 1 ¾ length win, breaking a mini-drought for the stable.

“He had shown some good form early days but he’d tapered off a little bit at the end of his last preparation so it’s good to have him back and back in good form,” Lane said of Forsure.

“Hopefully he can improve off this run and hopefully he can step up a grade or two.”

Lane almost made it a double in partnership with the stable when Lianne went down narrowly in the opening race of the Sale meeting.

Lianne, a daughter of Smart Missile, ran on hard last but fell a half-head short of the winner in a pleasing debut.

“She ran a great race first time out,” co-trainer Simon Zahra said.

“She hit the line really well and will only be improved with the experience and should be better over a bit more ground next start.”

Congratulations to the owners of Forsure and all involved with his impressive win.
