Experience propels Propelle to Sale victory

May 30, 2018

Race experience was all Propelle needed to show her true ability with an easy Sale success.

Propelled promised plenty in her excellent trials leading up to her Sandown debut but the Smart Missile filly was slow away and did a few things wrong before finishing less than a length from the winner on May 16.

Trainers Mathew Ellerton and Simon Zahra were keen to continue Propelle’s education. The pair sent Propelle to Sale for her second outing in a two-year-old maiden.

Damian Lane stuck with Propelle in the John Allman 2YO Fillies Maiden Plate (1008m). A quicker beginning left Lane able to give Propelle a close run near the speed before she dashed away under minimal pressure in the straight to score by more than three lengths.

“She probably just needed that day out (at Sandown),” Lane said. She trialled really well leading into that and she raced up “to them at Sale but just didn’t know how to put the race away.

“I think she got a little bit lost that day.

“Today, when I asked her for an effort, she really sprinted hard. It all worked out perfectly and a big part of that were her manners. She has really improved today.

“Today she was really well behaved and she was able to step better. I was able to control where she was in the run and she was just too good. “

Propelle’s dominant win earned connections a $13,750 winner’s cheque but there is a lot more to come as the daughter of Smart Missile progresses.

Congratulations to Propelle’s owners and all involved with the filly’s impressive victory.
