How good was Dundeel?
Apr 06, 2018
It’s Australian Derby time, which marks the perfect opportunity to take a moment to highlight the amazing racehorse Dundeel.
Ellerton Zahra Racing has a superb colt by Dundeel, who raced as It’s A Dundeel in Australia, who shows all the qualities of his sire.
Dundeel was simply a racing machine. The son of High Chaparral dominated his rivals during his three-year-old season, winning the Group 1 Spring Champion Stakes, Randwick Guineas, Rosehill Guineas and the Australian Derby in the 2012/13 season.
He also returned at four to become the only horse to beat champion mare Atlantic Jewel in the Group 1 Underwood Stakes and closed his career with a win over dual Doncaster Mile winner Sacred Falls in the Queen Elizabeth in 2014.
While bred along staying lines, Dundeel was sharp enough to win over 1200m at two. That early ability was clear in his son Irukandji, who gave the sire his first stakes win in a Group 3 race for two-year-olds in Sydney last Saturday.
Dundeel was one of the best New Zealand racehorses to grace Australian shores in the last 40 years and his progeny have already started to show his class.
Take your chance to get involved with a son of Dundeel before the sire's yearling prices skyrocket!
Don’t take our word on Dundeel’s quality. Have a look at the replay of the 2013 Australian Derby below.
