Dottie does it in a dead heat at Benalla
Oct 31, 2017
She had to share the spoils but Do It For Dottie made a winning start to her campaign at Benalla.
Do It For Dottie dead-heated for first in the LJ Hooker Christmas Races Maiden Plate (1106m) to notch her first win at her third outing.
Trainers Matthew Ellerton and Simon Zahra booked young rider Regan Bayliss for a rare ride for the stable and he didn’t let the Flemington-based team down with his efforts on the filly.
Bayliss sent Do It For Dottie forward to race handy to the speed before the three-year-old skipped clear of her opposition early in the straight.
Do It For Dottie tired late but kept giving to hit the line locked together with Seductive Miss with the judge unable to split the pair in a photo finish.
“I was instructed by the stable to roll forward and she jumped well and got across and relaxed really nicely,” Bayliss said.
“She gave a really good kick on the turn and the horse that ran her down did a good job to run her to a dead heat.
“To my horse’s credit, she is going to take good improvement from the run and it was a good win.
“When I did go for her, she went and she did a good job.”
Do It For Dottie earned connections a $13,200 winner’s cheque for her maiden success at Benalla.
Congratulations to Do It For Dottie’s owners and all involved with the filly’s first of many wins.
