Jay Belle delivers in dynamic style at Kyneton
Oct 17, 2017
It took a few goes but Jay Belle managed to put it all together in her dynamic maiden win at Kyneton.
Jay Belle had been a work in progress for some time, showing glimpses of her ability before her class came to the fore in the Cams Security Maiden Plate (1212m).
Trainers Mathew Ellerton and Simon Zahra decided to drop Jay Belle back to 1200m for the $22,000 race after the mare competed well without breaking through at her previous two 1400m runs.
Barrier 11 presented a problem for regular rider Chris Symons,, who decided to overcome the wide draw by taking Jay Belle back to settle second last until the 600m.
Symons let Jay Belle stride into the race around the final turn before the daughter on Wanted sprinted well to score what turned out to be a comfortable win.
“She’s been knocking on the door and I thought she would have won one last prep,” Symons said.
“She has always been around the mark. She has been a tricky horse just to work out her racing pattern.
“Today we just hoping that the speed was going to be on and it was.
“The speed was good. She relaxed and we got to the outside uninterrupted and tackled them no worries.
“She has just taken a while to get that maiden out of the way but I imagine she’ll go on to bigger and better things.”
Jay Belle broke through for her first win at her ninth attempt but the team at Epona Park can look forward to a few more victories with the four-year-old.
Congratulations to all involved with Jay Belle’s super Kyneton success.
