Special win for Crystal Kingdom at Bendigo

Jul 07, 2017

Early initiative paced the way for Crystal Kingdom to herald the end of an era with a comfortable win at Bendigo.

Crystal Kingdom is the last foal out of Crystal Snip, the dam of the stable’s Golden Slipper winner Crystal Lily, who died in October 2013.

The New Approach gelding’s win gave Crystal Snip the perfect record as a broodmare by becoming her 12th winner from as many runners in an amazing career that also produced stakes winners Crystal Wit, Amaethon and Crystal Web.

Crystal Kingdom has shown promise with three minor placings in his first five starts but he broke his maiden with the aid of a positive ride from Chris Symons.

Symons sent Crystal Kingdom to the lead early in the O’Farrell Robertson McMahon Maiden Plate (1400m), controlling the $23,000 contest before dashing away in the straight to score by 2 ¼ lengths.

“The dam has been terrific for our stable over the years and it was great for Crystal Kingdom to win a race as her last foal,” Simon Zahra, who trains Crystal Kingdom in partnership with Mathew Ellerton, said.

“Crystal Snip helped give us our biggest win with Crystal Lily and she did a great job.

“Crystal Kingdom will only get better with time and racing so he’ll do his dam proud as he develops.

“It was a good effort to lead them and concentrate on his job on the big track and the way he finished it off on the wet ground was really good.”

Crystal Kingdom’s breakthrough win came at his sixth outing while the $14,650 winner’s cheque took his stakes tally to more than $28,000.

Congratulations to the Moodie family on a special win.
