River Goddess powers to another win at Ballarat
Jun 29, 2017
River Goddess continued her rapid improvement with an outstanding victory at Ballarat.
Trainers Mathew Ellerton and Simon Zahra have been patient with the Northern Meteor filly and River Goddess has continued to repay them with wins at two of her last three starts.
River Goddess’s hot run of form began once the Flemington training partners applied a tongue tie to the three-year-old’s gear before her breakthrough win at Moe, which preceded an excellent second at Sandown.
Ellerton and Zahra kept River Goddess in BM64 grade but sent her to Ballarat for the Sportsbet's New Racing Form Handicap, again over the 1600m, with Chris Symons replacing the suspended Noel Callow.
River Goddess gave Symons a sweet ride behind the speed before the jockey eased her into clear running at the top of the straight.
River Goddess produced a nice little turn of foot to descend on the leaders before racing away to score by three lengths in a dominant display.
“We were expecting her to run a good race after her Sandown effort but she might have gone to another level,” Zahra said.
“She had a good run in the race but the way she put them away in the last 200m was really impressive and a sign she might be able to step up a couple of grades.
“She’s going the right way and there’s no reason she can’t continue to improve.”
River Goddess’s stylish Ballarat win was her third in 19 starts while the $12,6500 winner’s cheque sent her prizemoney tally to more than $108,000.
Congratulations to great stable supporters Hesket Bloodstock and all involved with the promising galloper’s win.
