Oaks a possibility for Sword after Caulfield win
Apr 22, 2017
Sword Of Light could have earned a shot at at the Group 1 Australasian Oaks in Adelaide after her win in the $250,000 VOBIS Gold Reef (1600m) at Caulfield.
Sword Of Light was a Group 3 winner as a two-year-old but has regained her best form with two straight wins in town to have trainers Mathew Ellerton and Simon Zahra considering another shot at the top level
Ellerton indicated another step up in distance to 2000m for the Oaks in Adelaide on May 6 was now a distinct possibility for the filly to chase a Group 1 win.
"She's a Group winner as a two-year-old and she's probably added a string to her bow," Ellerton said.
"She has stretched out in trip and was strong through the line at a mile today.
"So we'll certainly think about Adelaide in a fortnight.
"We've got nothing to lose if she pulls up all right."
Sword Of Light won a Blue Diamond Preview as a juvenile but then went winless in her next 12 starts until breaking through again at Caulfield last start.
With Damian Lane aboard on Saturday, Sword Of Light got the right run, one out and one back, tracking second favourite Think Babe and then responded when Lane asked her to extend in the straight.
She levelled up to the leaders at the 200m before striding clear to score a dominant win, her fourth in 12 starts.
The $158,500 in prizemoney and bonuses took Sword Of Light's stakes tally to more than $475,000.
Congratulations to Sword Of Light's owners, great stable supporters Hesket Blookstock, on another win in partnership with Ellerton Zahra Racing.
