Another crack at a Group 1 for Heatherly in The Galaxy
Mar 17, 2017
An outstanding track gallop preceded Heatherly’s trip to Sydney for another shot at a Group 1 win in The Galaxy (1100m) at Rosehill.
Golden Slipper day already holds special memories for Ellerton Zahra Racing after Crystal Lily’s win in the 2010 edition of the world’s richest two-year-old race but Heatherly is in terrific condition for her assignment.
Heatherly was placed in the Oakleigh Plate and Moir Stakes at Group 1 level in 2016 and scored a comfortable last-start win at Listed level at Flemington on March 4.
Simon Zahra, who trains Heatherly in partnership with Mathew Ellerton, said the daughter of Lonhro had progressed well from her second-up success.
“That run just brought her on and she worked brilliantly at Flemington on Tuesday,” Zahra said.
“We galloped her the reverse way and she just handled it perfectlyso we are confident she will run a big race.”
The customary autumn wet weather has hit Sydney with a heavy track almost certain for Rosehill but Zahra welcomed the ground for Heatherly.
“Every time we have worked her or trialed her in the wet, she has gone very well,” Zahra said.
“We are pretty confident she will be fine in the wet and we couldn’t be happier with her so weare expecting a big run.”
Regular rider Damian Lane will be aboard Heatherly again in The Galaxy.
