Hetuka Zarsho finally breaks through
Jan 02, 2017
Not many horses in training have deserved a win more than Hetuka Zarsho after the gelding ended a frustrating run with a dominant Geelong victory.
Hetuka Zarsho had been racing in great heart but without a win in his spring and summer campaign but that changed when the four-year-old tackled the Flying Brick Cider Co BM58 Handicap (1500m).
Hetuka Zarsho had raced closer to the speed in his previous runs but the son of Sebring relished the task of chasing the leader over the final 400m to score a comfortable win.
Jockey Damian Lane was fresh from a double at Flemington on New Year’s Day and timed his run on Hetuka Zarsho to perfection, enabling the gelding to score his second win in 17 outings.
“I left him alone a little bit early but when a track races like it did today, by this time of the day, everyone wants to go forward,” Lane said.
“The tempo set it up for him.
“Once I got out the pack, he had a bit of ground to make up. The leader was getting tired but he was finishing strongly.
“He sprinted well and it’s been a long time coming his second win, he won his first start and he’s been pretty luckless so hopefully it gives him a bit of confidence going forward.”
Hetuka Zarsho’s win earned connections a $9600 winner’s cheque, taking his stakes tally to more than $50,000.
Congratulations for terrific stable supporters First Light Racing and everyone involved with Hetuka Zarsho’s breakthrough victory.
