Two from two for exciting Matty
Sep 18, 2016
Matty’s connections had an easier watch second time around as the smart three-year-old strolled to an easy victory on the Pakenham Synthetic track.
Matty had to fight hard to get home narrowly in a maiden on debut at the Pakenham Synthetic circuit on August 23 but the experience served the gelding well when he stepped up to Benchmark 64 company at his second outing.
Trainers Mathew Ellerton and Simon Zahra booked jockey Andrew Mallyon to continue his association with the son of Nicconi in the XXXX Gold BM64 Handicap (1000m).
Mallyon kept Matty comfortable behind the speed until the home turn before pushing the lightly-raced galloper to quicken entering the home straight.
Matty quickened strongly when asked before sprinting the lead at the 200m, cruising clear in the last 300m to score by almost three lengths.
“We asked him to step up two grades after his first-up win and he did a great job,” Zahra said.
“The experience he got in his maiden win was a big help and he sprinted really well.
“He was actually very impressive and showed he was capable of working through his grades in this and future preparations.”
Matty’s second win in as many starts earned his owners another $12,650 winner’s cheque, taking his stakes tally to more than $23,000.
Congratulations to Contract Control Services on yet another win in partnership with Ellerton Zahra Racing.
