Class rise no worries for Dreamer at Swan Hill
Jun 10, 2016
Ellerton Zahra Racing made an impact at the three-day Swan Hill carnival when Crystal Dream handled a rise in class in emphatic fashion.
Crystal Dreamer won his maiden by five lengths at Kyneton in Decmber last year but returned for his winter campaign in terrific form with the Swan Hill success the three-year-old’s second straight win.
The son of Stratum resumes with a solid second on the Geelong Synthetic track on May 10 before Crystal Dreamer strode to victory on the Pakenham Synthetic circuit 18 days later.
Trainers Mathew Ellerton and Simon Zahra had no qualms about stepping Crystal Dreamer from Class 1 to Benchmark 70 level in the Bottle-O Handicap (1200m).
Andrew Mallyon made the trip north to partner Crystal Dreamer in the $23,000 race. Mallyon gave Crystal Dreamer the perfect trip, fourth on the rail, until easing the smart galloper wider to challenge on the home turn.
Crystal Dreamer sprinted well under Mallyon’s guidance, hitting the lead at the 150m before drawing away to notch his third win in six starts by 2 ¼ lengths.
“Once he won his maiden, he really switched on and he’s come back really well this time in,” Zahra said.
“He was untried on soft ground but the way he was strong on the line and pulled away late was impressive.
“He might have earned another crack in town now but we’ll see how he pulls up.”
Crystal Dreamer earned another $18,950 in stakes when providing Ellerton Zahra Racing another winner in partnership with wonderful stable supporters Contract Racing.
Congratulations to all involved with Crystal Dreamer’s win.
