Rock gets the Gold at Sale
Apr 19, 2016
Sometimes a horse can be out of the winner’s circle but still perform well on a consistent basis and Rock ‘N’ Gold fell into that category before his impressive Sale success.
Rock ‘N’ Gold has always shown plenty of talent as evidenced by his previous wins at Cranbourne and Sale in November 2014 but the son of Rock Of Gibraltar had been out of the winner’s circle for 18 months.
However, Rock ‘N’ Gold paid his way in that period, winning more than $52,000 for his owners via multiple city placings at Flemington and Moonee Valley.
But Rock ‘N’ Gold was able to break through for a deserved win in the Pantac Protective Services BM70 Handicap (1106m).
Trainers Mathew Ellerton and Simon Zahra dropped Rock ‘N’ Gold from BM78 company to BM 70 grade for the $30,000 event and Damian Lane did the job to get the five-year-old home to a comfortable win.
Rock “N’ Gold travelled behind the speed for Lane before showing a neat turn of foot early in the straight to record a two-length win.
“It’s been a bit frustrating with him because he’s got the ability but he hasn’t had much luck,” Zahra said.
“Wins with horses like him that always try are especially pleasing because he’s got a great bunch of owners and it’s always great to see things go right for people that deserve a win.
“The race panned out perfectly and the horse was good enough to do his part. We’re very happy.”
Rock ‘N’ Gold’s third win from 22 starts earned connections a $16,500 winner’s cheque, taking his overall stakes tally to more than $108,000.
Congratulations to Rock ‘N’ Gold’s owners and all involved with his terrific win.
