Rough Justice honoured with Super VOBIS award

Sep 17, 2015

Rough Justice’s amazingly consistent season was recognised with an award at the Victoria Racing Industry’s annual presentation ceremony at Crown Casino.

Rough Justice earned enough bonuses via the Victorian Owner and Breeder Incentive Scheme to be crowned the Super VOBIS Horse of the Year.

The sprinter shared the honour with the Robert Smerdon-trained Fontein Ruby but the team at Ellerton Zahra Racing was thrilled the consistent performer was rewarded for his efforts in 2014/15.

Rough Justice never finished further back than fifth in his 12 starts last season in which the gelding won twice and finished in the minor placings on another eight occasions.

Rough Justice accrued more than $180,000 in stakes last season but his performances earned more than $70,000 in Super VOBIS bonuses.

The son of Wanted’s haul included a $21,000 haul for his win at Caulfield last September and another $25,000 bonus for his victory at Flemington in late June.

“He just didn’t run a bad race all season,” Simon Zahra, who trains Rough Justice in partnership with Mathew Ellerton, said.

“He just went out and gave his best every time he raced and he got the rewards for his owners. He’s a great little horse to have around the stable.”

Rough Justice was one of a host of runners that earned Super VOBIS bonuses for Ellerton Zahra Racing and leading owners and outstanding stable supporters Contract Racing.

Contract Racing’s David and Jenny Moodie won the Super VOBIS Nominator of the Year and Super VOBIS Owner of the Year along with the TROA Owner of the Year crown.

Contract Racing also claimed the Leading Victorian Breeder Crown.

Congratulations to Contract Racing on their terrific season. Ellerton Zahra Racing again thanks the Contract Racing team and all of our wonderful owners and staff for their support last season.
