Hard work brings EZR great summer results
Dec 10, 2015
Ellerton Zahra Racing’s run of 20 winners in six weeks is no fluke.
Such success is the result of planning, hard work and patience from the trainers Mathew Ellerton and Simon Zahra, the stable’s terrific stand and our wonderful band of owners.
Ellerton and Zahra decided to have a quiet spring and set the team to appear after the peak period with the aim of attacking the summer period that still offers great prizemoney but features a lesser depth of competition.
“In August we made a conscious decision that if we didn’t have a group horse, a stakes horse, or a very good three-year-old that was mentally ready, we weren’t going to run them,” Zahra said.
The result is nine city winners since the end of the carnival including two doubles at Sandown on December 5 and December 9.
"We've got plenty in work and we kept saying we were targeting this time of year," Zahra said.
"The fields aren't big, they're not blessed with a lot of talent and if you get the right horse in the right race you can get a cheap race."
The team has managed to get Moparee and Miss Maggiebeel back to winning form after lengthy periods without a victory.
A smart batch of younger horses such as Durendal, Siding Spring, Magna Rossa and Crystal Dreamer have shown themselves to possess the ability to become outstanding city class types.
Ellerton Zahra Racing produced 11 winners in November but the first 10 days of December have brought nine victories with a bumper period of racing leading into the Christmas and New Year period to follow.
The winning run show no signs of slowing and it wouldn’t happen without the great support of everyone connected with the team.
May our good fortune continue.
