Pure speed gets Crystal Dreamer home at Kyneton

Dec 10, 2015

Sheer brilliance landed Crystal Dreamer his first win at Kyneton.

Crystal Dreamer started his career with a second in a strong maiden at Mornington on November 22 before showing terrific speed to lead throughout in the Cams Security 3YO Maiden Plate.

The benefit of his first race experience showed when Crystal Dreamer left the gates quickly to enable jockey Damian Lane to send him to the lead from barrier 10.

Crystal Dreamer relaxed well midrace before slipping clear of his opposition rounding the home turn. The son of Stratum accelerated smoothly in the straight to end the race as a contest before cruising to a five-length win.

Lane said the education Crystal Dreamer received with trainers Mathew Ellerton and Simon Zahra at Flemington stood the gelding in good stead.

“He flew the gates and a lot of credit goes to Matty and Simon. They teach their horses well,” Lane said. “That’s a big part of the learning process, getting them out of the barriers.

“I jumped on a ready-made horse today and he did the rest.”

Lane added Crystal Dreamer’s racing manners left him with plenty in reserve to show his terrific acceleration when required.

“When he let go, I knew there wouldn’t be anything near me because he let go so well,” Lane said.

“He accelerates like a horse that is going to be competitive in town shortly.”

A homebred for Contract Racing that is closely related to the Golden Slipper winner Crystal Lily, Crystal Dreamer’s victory earned connections $12,650 in stakes, taking his prizemoney tally to more than $17,000.

Congratulations to Crystal Dreamer’s owners and all involved with Crystal Dreamer’s exciting Kyneton victory.
