Another day, another double for red-hot EZR

Dec 07, 2015

Ellerton Zahra Racing’s outstanding summer run continued when the team produced another double at Terang.

The Flemington stable of trainers Mathew Ellerton and Simon Zahra prepared a double in town at Sandown on Saturday before backing up with another pair of victories at Terang 48 hours later.

The wins of Olafsson and Gin Lizzie were Ellerton Zahra Racing’s 11th and 12th winners in the last 50 runners but both horses showed they were in for profitable preparations with strong victories.

Olafsson started Ellerton and Zahra’s successful trip to Terang when he led throughout to claim the Terry Corr Memorial Plate (1200m).

Jockey Damian Lane ensured Olafsson made full use of barrier one by sending him to control the race in the lead before dashing clear early in the straight.

Olafsson was a touch green in the straight but held his opposition to break his maiden at his second start.

Katelyn Mallyon was aboard Gin Lizzie in her win in the Scanlons Dairy Centre Rating 58 Handicap (1200m).

Gin Lizzie also resumed at Terang after campaigning in much tougher company in the winter months and the four-year-old had the race in hand a long way from home.

Mallyon had Gin Lizzie travelling perfectly in fifth spot until the mare tracked up smoothly to be behind the leaders rounding the home turn.

The apprentice eased Gin Lizzie into clear running early in the straight before the daughter of Flying Spur’s neat turn of foot sent her to an easy 1 ¼ length win.

Ellerton Zahra continued to enjoy racing at Terang with the stable’s double taking its record to four wins and five minor placings from only 12 runners at the western district venue.

Congratulations to the owners of both Terang winners.
