Cranbourne double makes braving traffic worthwhile
Dec 29, 2017
Ellerton Zahra Racing made yet another profitable trip to Cranbourne with Karmonaaron and Eluded combining to give the stable a winning double.
The drive from Mathew Ellerton and Simon Zahra’s Flemington stable to Cranbourne can be a tiresome effort in Melbourne’s Friday traffic but Karmonaaron and Eluded made the journey worthwhile with terrific performances.
Karmonaaron was the first to taste success at the Cranbourne meeting when he produced a strong on-pace effort to claim the Zaparas Lawyers Maiden Plate (1400m).
The son of Dane Shadow found the 1200m too short at his second-up outing at Moonee Valley, but the extra distance of his Cranbourne assignment was more to his liking.
Jockey Dwayne Dunn made the most of Karmonaaron’s smart beginning to have the three-year-old on the speed soon after the start and the gelding was never headed, fighting on strongly to get home by three-quarters of a length.
Andrew Mallyon was aboard Ellerton Zahra Racing’s second Cranbourne winner when he piloted Eluded to victory in the TAB Multiplier Class 1 Handicap (1300m).
Like Dunn, Mallyon sent Eluded forward to race on the speed after beginning well and the three-year-old son of Excelebration kept finding when challenged in the straight to notch his second straight win by a length.
Eluded notched his maiden win at Werribee on December 10 before making a successful leap out of maiden grade at Cranbourne.
“I can’t take too much credit for tonight,” a modest Mallyon said. “It goes to all of the staff at Ellerton Zahra Racing because this horse is a real handful.
“He has taken a lot of time and Matty and Simon have always had an opinion of him and he was worth putting up with.
“He’s got plenty of scope. I think once he matures and settles down a lot more, I think we’ll find a better horse, but he definitely won on class tonight.”
Congratulations to great stable supporters First Light Racing and Hesket Bloodstock for their latest wins in partnership with Ellerton Zahra Racing and thanks to all our staff for their hard work getting the promising gallopers to the races.
