Romance shows plenty of heart at Seymour
Oct 08, 2017
Light Romance made a terrific start to her career when she held off all challengers to score on debut at Seymour.
The Lonhro filly was one of three Ellerton Zahra Racing runners in the Jumpabout Bouncers 3YO Maiden Plate (1300m) and the trio filled three of the first four places in the $22,000 contest.
Jockey Andrew Mallyon was aboard Light Romance and sent the three-year-old daughter of Lonhro forward to race handy to the speed to the home turn.
Mallyon sent Light Romance to the front and she was too strong for her opposition in the straight, striding to a 1 ¼-length win at good odds.
“She has always shown pace in her jumpouts and Andrew rode her the right way,” Simon Zahra, who trains Light Romance in partnership with Mathew Ellerton said.
“She did a lot right and she sprinted well at the right time so it was a really good effort on debut.”
Light Romance’s stablemate Vivendi finished 1 ½ lengths from the winner in third spot while Grammar Boy was another half-length further back in fourth.
“Both of those horses also ran well and we expect them to continue to improve and they’ll get the chance to win a race in the next few weeks.”
Light Romance is a daughter of Homecoming Queen, who won a couple of city races for Mathew Ellerton in 2002 and has produced stakes performers American Dream and Elusive King.
Congratulations to super stable supporters Hesket Bloodstock on another win in partnership with Ellerton Zahra Racing.
