Huge finish to 2016 at Cranbourne
Dec 30, 2016
Ellerton Zahra Racing provided the year-end fireworks at Cranbourne with a terrific trio of victories.
The Cranbourne meeting was the third last in Victoria for 2016 and Ellerton Zahra Racing grasped the opportunity to cash in with a strong team of runners engaged.
Linguist started the stable’s winning run with a dominant on-pace performance in the Procon Developments Maiden Plate (1600m).
Linguist had followed a numerical pattern of improvement with a fourth, third and second at her three runs this time in before breaking through with a 4-¾ length victory with Chris Symons in the saddle.
Symons was also aboard Mathew Ellerton and Simon Zahra’s next Cranbourne winner when La Volt comfortably handled his opposition in the Browns Sawdust & Shavings BM64 Handicap (1500m).
Symons adopted similar tactics to his ride on Linguist, allowing La Volt to settle handy to the speed before the colt did the rest, racing away in the straight to score by the best part of three lengths.
La Volt has competed steadily throughout his spring and summer preparation but the step to 1500m provided the catalyst for the son of Charge Forward to notch the second win of his six-start career.
It made perfect sense for Symons to ride Essence Of Terror in the same manner in the De Bortoli Shiraz BM64 Handicap (1200m).
Essence Of Terror started her summer campaign in terrific form with a first-up win at Werribee and a solid second to a subsequent Moonee Valley winner at her second-up outing.
Essence Of Terror raced near the speed before driving clear of her opposition in the straight, scoring her third win in 13 starts by 2 ½ lengths.
“It was a great way for us to finish the year with a treble,” Zahra said. “It’s terrific for the owners and all the staff involved and hopefully there’s a lot more in store in 2017.”
Congratulations to the owners of the three winners and all involved with the stable’s great night at Cranbourne.
