Ellerton Zahra Racing's hot run continues

Dec 24, 2016

Ellerton Zahra Racing continued to churn out the winners in the lead-up to Christmas when Crystal Dreamer completed back-to-back wins with his dynamic Sandown effort.

Crystal Dream scored a comfortable win in BM70 class at Werribee at his first run back from a break but gave the stable its fifth win in four days when he remained unbeaten in his summer preparation.

Andrew Mallyon, who rode Crystal Dreamer in his Werribee success, stuck with Crystal Dreamer in the Argyle Maintenance Handicap (1000m) and gave the son of Stratum a soft run behind the speed until the field straightened in the $60,000 contest.

Crystal Dream dashed clear of his opposition to score by a length. Mallyon said the four-year-old comfortably handled his rivals.

"He's been pretty good to me and I was pretty confident coming here today after his good win at Werribee," Mallyon said.

"He's got a big, extravagant action and I thought he was always going to appreciate Sandown.

"He travelled well in behind them and when he balanced up he showed a good turn of foot to put them away easily."

Ellerton said the promising sprinter overcame adversity to make to the races but would only improve with maturity.

"He hasn't got the best legs on and early days he wasn't given much hope of getting to the races," Ellerton said.

"He's matured with time and for a lightly-raced horse he's probably still untapped."

"I think he's still got a way to go - he's still bit wishy washy in the coat and he's a horse that can still get things mixed up a bit, he can want to get going mid-race.

"If we can keep him in one piece I think he's a progressive horse."

Congratulations to Crystal Dreamer’s owners Contract Racing on another win in partnership with Ellerton Zahra Racing.
