La Volt fights hard for Wodonga win

Oct 27, 2016

Getting on to a firmer surface proved enough for La Volt to break his maiden with a determined success at Wodonga.

La Volt struggled in soft conditions on debut at Ballarat in June but a bit more time to develop and a good track helped the son of Charge Forward show his ability.

Trainers Mathew Ellerton and Simon Zahra booked experienced jockey Cory Parish for his first for the stable in the RMR Engineering Maiden Plate (1100m).

Parish gave La Volt the perfect trip midfield before letting the three-year-old roll into the race three-wide rounding the home turn.

Parish guided La Volt through a gap at the 200m before the colt held off a late challenge to score narrowly.

“He’s a nice big horse and it’s the first time I’ve ridden for Ellerton and Zahra so it was good to get the win,” Parish said.

“It was very nice of them to put me on.

“There was a bit of pace and he settled got a nice got and the finished off strong.”

La Volt’s maiden success earned connections an $11,000 winner’s cheque, which we hope will be the first of many with the promising colt.

Congratulations to La Volt’s owners and all involved with his victory.
