Heatherly leads Ellerton Zahra Racing's Moonee Valley line-up

Heatherly has drawn the outside gate but co-trainer Simon Zahra says the filly’s work on Tuesday morning indicates another strong performance is likely in Saturday’s Group II McEwen Stakes (1000m at Moonee Valley.

Zahra and training partner Mathew Ellerton have earmarked three races over 1000m at Moonee Valley for Heatherly’s spring campaign, which will culminate with a shot at the Group I Moir Stakes on September 30.

Heatherly ticked off her first target when she won the Listed Carlyon Stakes (1000m) but Zahra said the daughter of Lonhro worked well ahead of her second goal in which she will jump from barrier 10.

"She worked really well on Tuesday,” Zahra said.

"She went through her first 400m in 28 and her last 400 in 24 on the bit on the steeple grass on the fence.”

The four-year-old was well-backed on track, firming from $3.40 to $2.90, when scoring in the Carlyon Stakes and bookies have her as short as $2.80 to repeat the effort at Group II level on Saturday.

Zahra said the winner of five of her 10 starts needed the hit-out first-up but will be in better shape on Saturday.

"She’s come on from her last run and she blew up a bit over the back so this run will just top her off,” Zahra said.

"She’ll probably just need this one again and she’ll be perfect for the Moir.

"It’s nearly a month between runs but she’ll have a jumpout in between if she does too well.”

Damian Lane, who has ridden Heatherly in four of her five wins, will continue his partnership with the Group II Rubiton Stakes winner on Saturday.

Heatherly will be one of four Ellerton Zahra Racing runners in action at Moonee Valley.

Classy filly Sword Of Light will tackle stakes class again in the Atlantic Jewel Stakes while Rough Justice will attempt to bounce back from an unlucky run in the SAJ Fruit Supply Stakes (both 1200m).

Pin Your Hopes will continue his amazing campaign in the MSC Signs Handicap (2040m).

Lane will also be aboard Sword Of Light and Rough Justice while Ben Thompson will continue his outstanding partnership with Pin Your Hopes.

Good luck to the owners of all horses and all involved with Ellerton Zahra Racing’s Moonee Valley team.
