Voluto gets Ellerton Zahra Racing on the board in 2016/17

Ellerton Zahra Racing expects Voluto to be the first of many after the gelding got the stable on the board for the 2016/17 season when dead-heating on the Geelong Synthetic track.

Trainers Mathew Ellerton and Simon Zahra prepared 88 winners last season, which was their best tally since starting their stable in the 2009/10 season.

Voluto showed the benefit of a nine-week break when close up over 1200m on July 29 before returning to the Geelong Synthetic circuit 11 days later for the Toorak Toff at Rosemont Maiden Plate (1300m).

Chris Symons travelled to Geelong to ride Voluto in the $20,000 contest, taking the four-year-old back to the second half of the field for the first half of the event.

Symons sent Voluto three-wide to chase the leaders at the 500m before rolling to the middle of the track on the turn.

Voluto wound up over the last 200m before a late dive got the son of Wanted a share of the first prize with local galloper Armageddon On It.

“He probably needs further but the way he charged at the line was really pleasing,” Zahra said.

“He’s taken a bit of time and he hasn’t had many starts but he’s got ability and will improve over more ground and with the benefit of experience.”

Voluto notched the first win for the family but his half-sister Foxling showed a victory is near with her excellent effort at Cranbourne on August 11.

Congratulations to Voluto’s owners and all involved with the promising galloper’s breakthrough win.
