Lane brings out the Love at Geelong

Jul 22, 2016

Top jockey Damian Lane marked his return to the saddle with a fitting win aboard No Love on the Geelong Synthetic track.

Lane headed across from Perth to join Ellerton Zahra Racing as an apprentice and has flourished into one of Australia’s best riders while maintaining a prolific partnership with the Flemington stable.

Lane spent five weeks riding in the UK before returning to Australia for the spring. No Love gave Lane his first win back from his break in the Milana’s Boutique Maiden Handicap (2200m).

No Love finished second at his first try at the distance at her previous outing at Pakenham on July 8 but relished another go at 2200m in her $23,000 assignment.

Lane got the Thorn Park mare settled handy to the speed where he travelled easily until the pressure lifted at the 700m.

No Love continually worked through his gears over the final 600m before scoring a solid one-length win to break his maiden at his ninth start.

“He’s taken time but he’s just improved each time we’ve stepped him out over more ground,” Simon Zahra, who trains No Love in partnership with Mathew Ellerton, said.

“He gave himself every chance racing near the pace so that early speed should help him as we try and work him through his grades.

“He’s a late three-year-old but he’s still got a bit of developing to do. He’s got a nice future ahead of him.”

Congratulations to No Love’s owners and everyone involved with the promising stayer’s success.
