Running Bull on the warpath at Pakenham
Jun 22, 2016
Ellerton Zahra Racing guided talented galloper Running Bull back into the winner’s circle after a run of outs on the Pakenham Synthetic track.
Running Bull had not win since a Flemington success in May last year for his previous trainer Peter Moody before the gelding transferred to the Ellerton Zahra operation in the autumn.
The five-year-old finished second in Adelaide at his first run for stable, which preceded a run of three unplaced outings before trainers Mathew Ellerton and Simon Zahra sent him to the synthetic circuit for the TAB – More Than Just Winning BM84 Handicap (1400m).
Andrew Mallyon gave Running Bull the perfect ride, letting the son of War Pass find his feet midfield early before tracking up behind the leaders under his own steam from the 600m.
Running Bull sprinted well when asked, taking the lead at the 250m before staving off a late challenge to get home by a neck.
“He shown he has the ability to be a solid city-class horse but there have been a few things that haven’t gone his way,” Zahra said.
“Since he’s been at our stable, he’s worked well enough but a couple of his races haven’t been run to suit and he hasn’t been in the best part of the track.
“He showed today that he has good ability and he’s hard to beat when things so his way so it was a most pleasing result.”
Running Bull’s win was his first for the stable but his seventh from 25 starts while the $36,000 winner’s cheque took his stakes tally to more than $275,000.
Congratulations to great supporter Contract Racing on another win in partnership with Ellerton Zahra Racing.
