Double strike for Ellerton Zahra at Geelong

Jun 20, 2016

Iamhere gave a perfectly-timed advertisement of her talent when notching her second straight win on the Geelong Synthetic track.

The mare is set to pass through the sales ring as part of a Contract Racing reduction sale at the Inglis sales complex at Oaklands Junction on Tuesday.

Iamhere returned to winning form on the Geelong Synthetic circuit on May 27 before returning to the venue a little over three weeks later to score a determined.

Andrew Mallyon partnered Iamhere in the Roderick Insurance Brokers Handicap (1300m), rating the mare perfectly to claim the $20,000 race by a long neck.

“We’ve got her happy and racing well and she loves the synthetic track,” Simon Zahra, who trains Iamhere in partnership with Mathew Ellerton, said.

“Andrew rode her perfectly and she did a really good job.”

Iamhere’s strong won completed a double at the meeting for Ellerton Zahra Racing after Schwarzlegga held on to win the Hylands Race Colours Maiden Plate (1200m).

Chris Symons was aboard Schwarzlegga in the $20,000 contest and gave the filly every chance, using barrier two to have her close to the speed for the entire race.

Schwarzlegga found herself in a classic ‘two-horse’ war in the straight before eking out a narrow win, improving in her third at the same track at her previous run.

“She was under pressure all the way down the straight but she fought it out really well,” Zahra said.

“Getting up to the 1200m was a help but she’ll definitely get out over more ground.”

Congratulations to the owners of both horses on their gutsy wins.

The double took Ellerton Zahra’s winning tally to 78 for the season.
