American produces dream performance in Adelaide
Promising three-year-old American Dream bounced back to his best form with a comfortable win at Saturday’s Morphettville meeting.
American Dream was luckless behind Group I winner Mosheen in the Listed Manfred Stakes (1200m) but luck played no part in the gelding’s impressive Holdfast Travel Insurance Handicap (1200m) win.
Stable apprentice Damian Lane allowed the son of Artie Schiller to drive up on the rail to sit behind the leader from his inside draw.
American Dream travelled sweetly through the middle stages, leaving the lightly-raced galloper with plenty in reserve for his dash to the post.
Lane guided American Dream into clear running at the 250 metres before the gelding produced a smart turn of foot to end the $34,000 race as a contest.
“He did everything we wanted him to over there,” co-trainer Simon Zahra said.
“He travelled over really well. He settled in beautifully and his race performance was excellent.
“Damian did a good job on him and the horse showed his ability with the way he put them away quickly.”
The win was American Dream’s second from four starts and the $21,300 winner’s cheque took his prizemoney to more than $43,000.
